25 individual Toned Lumen Prints set in 5 x 5 9cm Circles,
This series is created using the lumen printing process, a camera-less photographic technique in which pressed tulips are placed directly onto expired light-sensitive black-and-white photographic paper and exposed under ultraviolet light for five hours or more. As the paper slowly reacts, the flowers partially block and filter the light, producing delicate, x-ray-like impressions shaped by time, light, and the structure of the blooms themselves.
The resulting images are toned blue, introducing a colour the Tulip can never naturally produce. In doing so, the work celebrates the tulip’s extraordinary spectrum of colour while imagining the one hue still absent from its bloom.
