Cyanotypes ~ Two can NEVER be the Same.
Derived from the Greek 'Cyan' meaning 'Dark Blue Impression'
~ The Original Blue Print ~
A complex reaction of iron compounds combined with UV result in an insoluble blue dye otherwise known as ‘Prussian Blue’.
A solution of iron compounds is coated onto any receptive surface to make it mildly photosensitive. The various shades of blue are achieved by passing UV through different contact prints, textures and colours. The addition of assorted household solutions (which vary the PH values) create their own unique spectrum of colours and shades.
With Cyanotypes many variables there is an unpredictability to the results, and some of the best prints appear as ‘happy accidents’ making them all absolutely totally original and each one unique to you.
